Navien NPE-S

Navien Condensing Tankless Gas Water Heater (NPE-S)

What makes the NPE-S version different than the Navien NPE-A tankless?

The Navien NPE-S (standard) tankless is basically the exact same as the NPE-A (advanced) except a buffer tank and the re-circulation pump are not installed within the system. If these are two options you don’t need than the NPE-S is a great, reliable tankless that is a few hundred dollar cheaper than the more expensive NPE-A.

Why would you need the NPE-A?

    1. If you have a large house and need to run a re-circulation loop so hot water gets to your homes furthest tap quickly, you need the advanced model.
    2. If you might want to do some small zone heating, like a towel warmer, bathroom floors, or maybe a small radiator then the NPE-A should be your choice.
    3. Don’t need any of the things listed above? Then the NPE-S is likely the right tankless for you.

To elaborate, Navien has split the names and models of their tankless systems up. The NPE-A and the NPE-S each have three sizes consisting of the 180, 210, and, 240. The letter A and letter S are added to the end and represent whether the system has the buffer tank and re-circulation pump (NPE-A) or if it doesn’t (NPE-S).New Generation Navien Tankless

    Heat Exchanger

Navien tankless water heaters utilizes dual stainless steel heat exchangers, providing 3.8 to 4.5 times longer life-expectancy and erosion resistance over the copper heat exchangers used in other tankless brands. Navien’s heat exchangers operate with relatively low water temperature, minimizing damage from hard water conditions and maintains efficiency levels. It’s always important to have your tankless flushed once every 2 years or so to remove any buildup from within the heat exchangers.

    Efficiency

Because of Navien’s high efficiency the tankless can be vented in PVC piping. Basically, excess heat is exhausted with all the combustion gasses in conventional tank systems but a Navien uses this to pre-heat incoming water. This results in significantly lower exhaust temperatures allowing for the use of PVC exhaust vent piping.
