When it comes to water heater performance it’s all about the output of hot water produced. The Navien NPE-S2 condensing tankless water heaters are so efficient that they can outperform much larger capacity non-condensing competitors. More output for the money, lower installation costs, and lower operating costs for customers making it the best choice for your tankless water heating option.

NPE-S2 or the NPE-A2?

What is the difference between the two? The S stands for STANDARD and the A stands for ADVANCED

Fundamentally they are very similar, the NPE-A2 offers a few additional features that are absent on the NPE-S2. If you are looking for a tankless to provide hot water and that is all than the NPE-S2 is likely your best choice. If you want to a recirculation line, or possibly home heating in addition to hot water than the NPE-A2 is probably your best choice.

The new Navien NPE-S2 series are the most innovative condensing tankless water heaters on the market today. These tankless water heaters deliver a continuous flow of hot water for as long as you need it. There’s no waiting for a storage tank to warm up. A few of the new features are listed below.

A – 2″ PVC up to 75 feet and 1/2″ gas up to 24 feet

B – High efficiency up to 0.95 UEF and up to 15:1 TDR

The new NPE-S2 doesn’t have a built in re-circulation system like the Navien NPE-A2 does but it is an an external option if you do decide that it is something you might want or need in the future. A re-circulation pump and NPE-S2 could also be used for small radiant heating applications. Examples could be for something like bathroom floors, towel heaters, or maybe small room space heating. If one of the features above is something you can see yourself adding in your home it might be better to jump up to the NPE-A2 and have everything built right into the system.

Navien NPE-S2 Models

The Navien NPE-S2 comes in 4 different sizes, from 120,000 btu to 199,000 btu. For all of Canada we don’t recommend that you install anything less than the NPE-180S2 as the incoming water during winter can be too cold and really reduce hot water production. Outdoor models are also almost exclusively used in climates that rarely experience sub zero temperatures. Of course there are exceptions and occasionally a situation arises where an smaller unit or an outdoor one makes sense and can be installed.

Re-circulation valve with Navien NPE-S2 Tankless Water Heaters.

This unique vale is designed for re-circulation of domestic hot water in applications where a dedicated return line is not available. Navien calls this system their “NaviCirc”. It is a fairly simple plumbing device that uses the existing hot and cold water lines already installed throughout your home to reduce the wait time for hot water at the faucet without the need for a dedicated re-circulation return line.

1. Can be used with NPE-S2 Series tankless water heaters.
2. Automatically blocks circulation when the hot water temperature within the valve is about 95°F (35°C)
