Takagi T-K3

The T-K3 model is one of Takagi’s most versatile and powerful residential tankless water heaters. The T-K3 has Easy-Link capability, allowing owners to connect up to four units without the use of a controller unit. The TK3 can also be converted to a direct vent model to further extend its application in residential homes.
Features
This Takagi TK3 tankless has a number of features that allow it to stand out from the pack.
Compact Size: Only 13.8 inches wide, the T-K3 tankless has the ability to be recessed between wall studs for even more space savings.
Low Activation Flow Rate: The Takagi TK3 activates at only 0.5 GPM, which allows the use of smaller water flows in bathroom sinks and showers. This is a pretty standard flow rate now for new generation tankless water heaters.
Parallel Installation: Easy Link technology allows the T-K3 to be installed with up to three other units without the use of an additional control box.
Direct-Vent Conversion: The TK3 can easily use a direct vent conversion to import combustion air from outside.
Eight Temperature Settings: Some tankless manufactures have only 4 preset temperature settings, the T-K3 offers eight separate temperatures. However, if you want a specific temperature than it is required that you buy the TM-RE10 temperature controller.
Longer vent runs: The T-K3 can have a vent pipe run up to 50 feet with five elbows, instead of the normal 35 with three elbows. This can be a great addition if your particular installation has a long vent run.
Synopsis
The TK3 tankless incorporates a number of important features into one new tankless system, and should fit the needs of most high-volume residential applications. As always performance depends on the temperature of the ground water, and with winter water temperatures here in Ontario, Toronto and the Toronto region dipping to the low 40 degrees F range you can expect the T-K3 tankless to produce a flow rate around 4.1 GPM, or 246 GPH.

The T-K3 model, also known as the “Revolutionary T-K3,” is one of Takagi’s most versatile and powerful residential units. The T-K3 offers Easy-Link capability, which allows you to connect up to four units without the use of a controller unit. The T-K3 can also be converted to a direct vent model.
Compact Size:
Only 13.8 inches wide, the T-K3 can be recessed between wall studs for even more space savings! A special recess box is available for outdoor installations.

The T-K3 activates at only 0.5 GPM, which allows the use of smaller water flows in bathroom sinks and showers. This reduces water waste and allows for stable temperatures.
Parallel Installation:
Using Takagi’s Easy Link technology, the T-K3 can be installed in parallel with up to three other units without the use of an additional control box, generating more flow while saving money, space and installation time. Four T-K3 unites will deliver a total of 21.6 GPM at 60 degrees F delta T; or 26 GPM at a 50 degree F delta T.
Direct-Vent Conversion:
The T-K3 can be easily converted into a direct vent model for inside installations that need to import combustion air from outside.
Eight Temperature Settings:
Instead of the usual four settings, the T-K3 offers eight separate temperatures, set by dip-switch: 104 degree F, 113 degree F, 122 degree F, 131 degree F, 140 degree F, 158 degree F, 176 degree F, and 185 degree F. This versatility reduces the need for a separate remote control. However, setting temperatures other than the eight presets requires the TM-RE10 temperature controller.

As you can see, the T-K3 incorporates all those “why-don’t-you-have-this?” features into this one new product. Its larger flow capacity through parallel connections will meet the hot-water needs of most high-volume residential applications and many commercial projects, too. In short, the T-K3 fills the gap between the single residential heater and multiple commercial T-M1 units. Performance depends on the temperature of the ground water of course: At a delta T of 60 degrees F in warmer areas – for example, where the winter ground water is 60 degrees F and with the output set at 122 degrees F – the T-K3 will provide a 5.4 GPM, or 324 GPH. In colder areas where the input temperature may be 40 degrees F or less, expect a flow rate about 4.1 GPM, or 246 GPH.

The Takagi Flash T-H1 tankless water heater is a new condensing unit available to house hold consumers. 
This tankless heater has an average efficiency of 95% with propane as its fuel source and 92% when natural gas is used. In our Canadian climate you can expect about 4 plus gallons per minute in the dead of winter, and much more in the summer when ground water is warmer.
The Flash T-H1 is able to provide about 3 simultaneous showers when ground water is at or below 40 Fahrenheit. This tankless is unique in that it has two heat exchangers which enable the water passing through to absorb much (90 to 97 percent of it) of the heat generated from combustion. The stainless steel secondary heat exchanger has been added to collect waste heat from the units vent stack and divert it to pre-heating the incoming water. This secondary exchanger causes some condensation that is slightly acidic, Takagi has included a collector and a built in neutralizer that allows the drainage to be plumbed into your standard drainpipe.
This tankless water heater employs a variable gas input which allows the unit to produce only the amount of heat necessary to warm the water to a household’s desired temperature. At a maximum this tankless can produce 199,000 BTU’s per hour and in ideal conditions provide 10 gallons of hot water per minute.
There is a downside, the Takagi condensing tankless water heater is quite expensive, but it is one of the higher end units with a very high efficiency rating. Also unless you buy the Takagi temperature controller you are limited to only 4 preset temperatures, 113 F, 122 F, 140 F, and 182 F.
This is a very interesting system but we havent had any direct hands on experience to draw on yet. We should be getting a trial system soon at which point we will provide a new update and evaluation.
