Navien Tankless Recall In Ontario – Poisoning Risk – Models and Model Number
Jan 5th
Navien tankless has issued a recall on thousands of tankless systems that have pose a risk of leaking carbon monoxide and poisoning homeowners.
Navien is located in South Korea and has been manufacturing it’s tankless water heater for several years now. There are a suspected 13,000 units with the defect and recalled. An unstable connection can cause the vent collar to separate or disconnect allowing exhaust and carbon monoxide to leak into the home.
Tankless water heaters are a green appliance that is able to heat water instantly saving consumers money and energy. A tankless eliminates the need to have a standing storage hot water tank that needs to be heated continuously.
The affected Navien tankless systems that are being recalled were sold to distributors from February 2008 to March 2009. They have been described as:
Navien tankless hot water heaters are white with “T-Creator” and “NAVIEN” on the front. Recalled model numbers are CR-180(A), CR-210(A), CR-240(A), CC-180(A), CC-210(A) and CC-240(A) manufactured in 2008. A label on the side of the water heater lists the model number along with the manufacturing year in YYYY format.
These units are installed indoors in basements and closets (typically in Canada and the northern US). The units that are installed outside are not affected and not being recalled.
If you discover you have one of these models you can schedule a free repair but should not use the water heater in the mean time. Navien also suggests that a carbon monoxide detector be installed outside the sleeping areas of homes.
For more information you can contact Navien at (800) 244-8202 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday.
Water Heater Flush Service Toronto
Dec 9th
Do you have a tankless or conventional hot water tank? I bet you do.
It needs to be flushed!
Well, actually I lied, if it’s less than 2 years old it doesn’t.
BUT
If your tank is any more than 2 years old it really could use a flush to make it more efficient and clean. A tank will decrease in efficiency by 2-3 percent a year as minerals build up on the heating surfaces. These minerals effectively insulating the heat from the water forcing your heater to burn more fuel longer to heat the water.
The best part is that there is a simple solution.
Flushing a water heater requires that vinegar be circulated though the system repeatedly with a small pump for about 30-40 minutes. The acid in the vinegar eats away the deposits that have accumulated on the walls of the heater revitalizing the past efficiency of your water heater.
Tankless Flushing
A tankless is incredibly efficient and thus incredibly susceptible to scale and mineral build up. Thankfully, most tankless systems are installed with flush valves so that this process is easy and fast.
- Unplug the unit
- Shut the water and gas off
- Hook up the hoses
- Start the pump and run the vinegar thought the tankless.
- Your done, just reverse the steps.
Conventional Tank Flushing
This type of water heater is a bit more difficult, but it is just as important to have the system flushed and cleaned.
- Unplug if necessary
- Shut water and gas supply off
- Drain tank
- Pump vinegar through system
- Rinse and flush a second time
- Done, reverse steps to hook everything back up
That should pretty much clean both types of water heaters sufficiently to bring the efficiency back to nearly factory standards. It is important to have this done on a relatively regular basis and, by chance we offer a flushing service for 99$ for either system.

Hamilton Tankless

Hamilton
Hamilton is a big part of the Golden Horseshoe and has a population of nearly 750 thousand. This is a large market for
tankless water heaters and there is significant potential for energy savings. It really doesn’t make sense to heat your water 365 days a year. Think of it with this analogy.
…..Its a cold winters day in Hamilton, you wouldn’t leave your car running all night so that it would be warm for you in the morning would you? Then why do you leave your hot water tank running?…
A tankless water heater only heats water when you need it, saving energy and reducing emissions. Hamilton has had a bad reputation for its pollution emission levels but it’s made leaps and bounds forward curbing this problem. Help Hamilton to become even cleaner with a new tankless system.
Now is still a great time to buy a tankless as Hamilton residents are still able to apply for grants and rebates from the Provincial Government. These grants help home owners reduce their eco footprint and encourage the installation of renewable products. Basically its free money for you.

Burlington Tankless Water Heaters
A tankless water heater can provide your home with endless hot water, and save you energy. You wouldn’t leave your car running all night so that it was warm in the morning….
why do you do the same with your hot water tank
Burlington has good water for tankless heaters as it doesn’t have high dissolved mineral content so this cuts down on the amount of buildup in the heat exchanger. Although it is still important to periodically flush the tankless system to keep it in peak operation.
Burlington tankless water heater installation and service is one the main areas visited by technicians and sales REPS as the population seems to understand the value in a good system and deal. Burlington seems to be one of those cities that is embracing the tankless water heater and moving away from the conventional tank type system.
Don’t forget Burlington and the Province of Ontario are still offering grants and rebates to home owners who make the switch over to a tankless system. Best of all is that you still get the grant money even if you rent the tankless system.

Tankless Systems Save
|
Tankless systems are very effective at saving you money. This only makes sense as they only provide hot water on demand. They don’t heat water and then hold it, continually maintaining that temperature.
You wouldn’t leave your car running all night so that it was warm in the morning would you? Well that’s what your hot water tank does day in and day out.
Our tankless water rental tanks have been unaffected by the drop of the government grants. If your living in the
greater Toronto area, and place like Brampton, Mississauga, North York, Hamilton, Richmond Hill, Thornhill, and Markham. You are very likely renting your conventional tank and paying upwards of $20-$30 a month for a system worth $700 at most. Upgrading to a tankless and we take care of returning your old tank, and installing a tankless. All for roughly $10 more a month and you have a system valued at nearly $4000 providing your hot water.
- Tankless systems are more reliable
- Tankless water heaters are more energy efficient
- They provide endless hot water
- You get unlimited tech support
- Unlimited emergency service and repairs
These systems are proven energy and money savers, sure they cost a little bit more a month to rent but you easily make that up in the natural gas or electricity reduction savings.

Tankless Installation Time

Installing a Tankless
|
How long is it going to take to install a new tankless water heater?
There really isn’t a simple time frame that can be stated because no two installs are the same. Everyone’s home is unique and this means that install times are different for every home. If you have a tankless system and are replacing it (far and few between) the tankless install will be relatively quick as most of the pipes and the gas line will be the right vicinity.
If you are moving from a conventional hot water tank to a tankless water heater then it will take at least a few hours. These are a few of the required tasks of an install crew
This is a very short rundown of the installation process, it is much more detailed and requires more time than you might expect. All tankless water heaters have very specific details as to where and how they are vented. This does place a bit more work on the installer as they have to ensure that their installation meets all codes.
All and all a new tankless installation will run anywhere from a few hours to an entire day. For the majority of situations it is rare for a tankless to take more than half of a day to install. So I would suggest to budget about 4 hours for the installers to finish their work.

Hot Water Tank Thermal Images
|
Here are some thermal shots of a conventional hot water tank, as you can see there is a lot of heat loss
occurring. Sure during the winter months this is probably not a very big deal as the heat leaks into the house. During the summer when you are paying copious amount of money to keep your house cool a conventional tank sits there 24 hours a day leaking heat, and costing money. Additionally if you can see the vent pipe coming off the tank it is quite warm, this is wasted heat and energy being directly
vented outside. That is lost energy and money for you. A tankless water heater has a much higher efficiency rating which significantly reduces the amount of heat and energy vented out of the house. The increased efficiency also means that there is less heat escaping into your home during the cooling season.
More pictures to come soon.
If you are interested we can bring the thermal camera out on an in home consultation and you can see first hand why your conventional tank is one of the largest energy waters in your home. Fill out the simple inquiries form and we will contact you within 1 business day (please specify if you would like us to bring the thermal camera).
