Breaking Your Water Heater Contract In Toronto
Nov 30th
Unfortunately all companies have their own contracts and stipulations that you will likely need to abide by if you are past the 10 day consumer protection act.
Most are for between 8-10 years with a set fee to break that contract early (but there exceptions). If you do decide to switch companies most will negotiate price and will actually subsidize or even pay your termination fees to get you as a client. The water heater market is highly competitive so take advantage of that. A rental tankless will cost roughly 39$ – 49$ a month depending on model and size (IMPORTANT – you are still entitled to a government rebate with a rental tankless so look into an energy audit). A regular rental tank should be between 10$ and 25$ a month, again depends on size and venting.
Purchase a Water Heater Outright
A tankless rental company will not notify when the contract is up, they actually hope you forget and keep paying them. If you are past your contract definitely look into just purchasing either a tankless or conventional tank. These systems are incredibly reliable and actually not that expensive to buy outright, you never have to worry about a contract or any cancellation fees and even better, door to door sales people. We offer free quotes for a tankless or conventional tank purchase and installation. See how much here.
The annoying door to door sales.
If you are contacted at your door ask these questions before you even think about letting the sales person into your home.
- 1. What company do you represent?
- 2. How long is the contract for?
- 3. Are there charges to exit the contract if I’m not satisfied with the service?
- 4. What is the experience level of your technicians and staff?
- 5. How much higher are your rental rates?
How do Toronto home owners feel about door to door techniques?
A recent poll suggests were not too thrilled.
- 58% felt pressured into making a purchase or signing the contract presented
- 61% who purchased experienced “buyer’s remorse”, and regretted signing the contract
- 70% feel angry and taken advantage of
Tankless Warranty Facts
Oct 4th
Tankless systems all seem to have different warranties and information regarding their heat exchangers, parts, and labour on installation. Here is a small break down of what you as a home owner can expect.
Bosch – 12 year warranty on tankless heat exchanger and 2 years on Parts.
Navian – 15 year warranty on tankless heat exchanger and 5 years on Parts
Noritz - 10 year warranty on tankless heat exchanger and 5 years on Prats.
Rinnai – 12 year warranty on tankless heat exchanger and 5 on Parts, but also comes with 1 year on labour.
Takagi - 10 year warranty on tankless heat exchanger, 5 years on Parts, and 1 year on labour.
It pays to do your research as you can see there is a bit of a difference between the different brands and the warranties that they offer. These tankless systems are designed to last for a number of years, many years longer than your conventional tank water heater.
Also know that the company you hire to do the installation more often than not (if they are reputable) will add additional warranty on to your unit. Make sure to get a few quotes and make the warranty a priority when negotiating the price.
Tankless Rental Program

Tankless Rentals
|
Home owners in Ontario, Toronto, Burlington, Hamilton, Etobicoke and the GTA are now able to rent a tankless hot water heater instead of the conventional tank type. A tankless system heats water on demand
or as required by a home owner and provides an endless supply. A conventional tank heats water all day long and wastes energy.
This is a worry free rental program that gives home owners the option to go tankless without the upfront costs. Switching out your old tank is easy as expert installers will remove the old tank and replace it with the new tankless system. The old tank will, if you own it be recycled or if it’s a rental returned to the company that you’re currently with.
This should all take less than 4 hours and you can be saving over a 1000 pounds of CO2 a year.
Fill out this quick form and we will have someone contact you within 24 hours to answer any question and find out if a tankless will work in your home.

their conventional water heaters to either a state or a tankless water heater (I realize that state tanks have not really been explained so I will make a point to do a synopsis on them this week). The provincial (Ontario) will give 250$ for any tankless water heater that is installed, the federal government will match that offer which totals the rebate to 500$. This is a good chunk off the purchase and installation of a tankless water heater. State tanks are eligible for 300$ from the federal government and another 300$ from the Ontario government totaling 600$.
water heater installation in your home. Enbridge’s territory consist of most of southern Ontario. Their service territory includes these cities referenced below and a number of others but it would be too long to list:
strong demand for rental units for these systems as well. If you decide that renting is a better idea than outright purchasing you are still entitled to the rebates that are offered from both the government and from Enbridge.
